Learn About the Manx Cat Tail?

A Manx cat can have any of a number of different tail lengths.  The two shortest ones- non existent and a mere bump of vertebrae on the rump are the two variations that are ideal and allow the animal to be shown as a Manx- but a Manx cat can also have a short tail or a tail of normal length as well.  Interestingly, there seems to be little reason for how the trait of tail length is passed on from generation to generation as evidenced by the fact that a single litter can have tails of many different lengths!  It may also be noted that breeders haven’t made an effort to eliminate longer tails from the gene pool because Manx cats with longer tails add robustness to the breed and are even some of the best breeders.  Despite the emphasis on tail length, the length of the hind legs as compared to the front legs, fur color, and overall proportions are also factored into the equation of what constitutes the ideal Manx cat.

Regardless of how they got where they are today, Manx cats are great companions for anyone who appreciates the comradery of an intelligent and fascinating animal.
