Mail Elfs

When my sons were small, they loved surprises and especially loved getting what they called “packages”.

Packages were anything wrapped and usually came from Dad when he traveled, Grama, or a lot of people at Christmas and birthdays.

I began leaving small, wrapped, inexpensive gifts in the mailbox so they could find them. I told the kids they were from “mail elfs”.

Over the years, and in many mailboxes, the tradition continued. The kids never grew tired of it.

Not long ago I noticed my granddaughter with a little bag of marbles. When I asked her where she got them, she replied, “From the Mail Elf, of course, Grandma”.
