Replace your bad habit with a healthy one
Severe drinking and alcohol abuse is a habit and can be overcome. First you must ask yourself, why am I letting this substance control me? Do I want to be in control of myself or allow a substance to have power over me? Having a drink is a habit that can be changed. To kick the habit you need to form a new routine in your life based on healthy activities. The best way to avoid having a drink is exercise. Exercise boosts endorphins and leaves you feeling energized and happy. Join a gym or find an outdoor location where you can walk. When you find yourself craving that drink, stop and remind yourself that you are in control. If you are in a location where you cannot exercise, take a walk around the block or take a few trips up the stairs. This will serve as a reminder that you have changed your habit to a healthy one. Create a new routine to include exercise in your day in replace of drinking. Don’t allow yourself to give up. As you stick to your routine a new habit will be formed. After one month you will find that it is easier to avoid drinking and that you are feeling happy and in control.
