Why Do Companies Want Background Checks.
At first glance it may not be obvious. Why after all would a company that has almost already hired you still want to dig deeper with background checks? The answer of course is in litigation. As an employee your company may be held liable for your actions. If you have a financial criminal history, and you commit a financial criminal act while at work, a company that did not do a background check on you will be more liable. Lawsuits are not tamed beasts, so just because a company did a background check, does not mean they are not less liable for your actions. But a company that does at least check your background has some defence in the worst case scenario. Checking a background is preventative maintenance for a company, legally thinking at least.
